ONLINE: Novel Adventure Club (grades 7-10)

This live course explores the elements of creative writing while planning, writing, and editing original stories. Students will learn about crafting compelling characters, writing conflict that drives the story and plot forward, purposeful dialogue, setting with description, and more! The class will read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury to analyze his use of literary devices, characters, and plot.

​During the course, each student plans his/her own novel and gives feedback to the rest of the class in discussion boards. Writing the novel will take place in five installments, which students will edit in the later weeks of class. Finally, the class will cover submission letters and excerpts, which will prepare those wanting to publish their stories.

ONLINE: IEW Level A

This live course provides instruction in creative and expository writing.  For beginning writers, this two-semester class explores a variety of topics relating to animals, historical figures, and exciting events and discoveries.

Combined with games and activities that will encourage your child, the pace of this class is ideal for elementary writers while working toward more challenging concepts by the end of the year. Students will learn how to take notes, make outlines, retell narrative stories, summarize references, write from pictures, and compose their own stories. The IEW methodology teaching both structure and style for each writing model. Class includes grammar and vocabulary development.

ONLINE: IEW Level B

This live course is for students who have had Level A or are in middle school. Covering the nine IEW units, this class builds on composition, grammar, and vocabulary skills while students write about the captivating world of myths, legends, and folklore. Using interactive games, brainstorming, and group activities, these classes will lead students to become confident in their writing abilities.

Topics covered include outlining, developing strong paragraphs, writing narratives, combining multiple resources, creative writing, and essays. Class includes grammar and vocabulary development.

Appropriate for those who completed Level A

ONLINE: IEW Level C

Covering the nine IEW units, this live course further develops composition, grammar, and vocabulary skills while utilizing advanced structural models and stylistic techniques. Using interactive games, brainstorming, and group activities, these classes will lead students to become confident in their writing abilities and prepare them for high school coursework.

Topics covered include outlining, developing strong paragraphs, writing narratives, combining multiple resources, creative writing, and essays. Class includes grammar and vocabulary development. 

Appropriate for those who completed Level B
